Summer Jobs for Students At The Table (2018)

The Table Community Food Centre is seeking three energetic, responsible and motivated students to fill summer positions with us.  

All three positions (see below) are for 8 weeks and applicants must meet the Canada Summer Jobs criteria for applicants:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  •  have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to
  • return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has
  • been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial
  • legislation and regulations.

Community Food and Outreach Worker

The student will work primarily with the Good Food Bank Coordinator to provide important community services by developing and implementing educational activities about healthy food choices such as food demonstrations, creation of fact sheets and recipes. The student will also support the staff and volunteers of the food bank with basic operations including fundraising, food drives, welcoming and processing clients, and overseeing client use of the food bank. They will work with local farmers and gardeners to coordinate the donation or "gleaning" of fresh, local produce for the food bank and other programs at The Table. 

Start Date May 7 or later.


Community Gardener

The Community Gardener will participate with staff and volunteers in the planting, tending and harvesting of produce from The Table's gardens. The Community Gardener will also work to inform and engage the broader community about growing and consuming more local food through participation in community festivals and events.

Food Skills and Event Assistant

The Food Skills and Event Assistant will assist our Food Skills Coordinator and Community Chef in delivering food skills and food access programs.  The student will assist with the preparation of food and the serving of food at community events, festivals and fundraisers  that The Table is participating in over the course of the summer.
